On a day trip to the Pawnee Buttes in eastern Colorado's High Plains I spotted the cow and her two calves traveling across the dry and dusty landscape. With the stormy sky overhead and a promise of rain she seemed to be heading toward that promise.
Ironically a lot of the western USA is suffering with drought at the same time that the eastern USA is flooding. Learn more about global climate change.

ReplyDeleteThank you Kalei and Cathy! I am so pleased that you like it!
ReplyDeleteThe weather sure seems all mixed up doesn't it? I love the soft browns and blues of your photo Julie ~ so pretty! I hope those cows are traveling to cover with that rain approaching! :)

Love this photo - such sweet tones :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the wonderful comments. I like the starkness but was not sure if others would.
ReplyDeleteCatherine, I'm afraid there is no shelter from that storm. It is open range prairie without a structure or tree for miles and miles. The cattle don't mind the rain, it is the winters that can kill. Most ranchers round up the cows and take them to their ranches to winter over and feed.
