Friday Favorites - Flower Photography

I would like to introduce a new feature to my blog called Friday Favorites. There are many great photographers with many different styles. I will select a new theme each Friday to offer an enjoyable and grand variety.

Today I will share three of my favorite flower photographs. With the cold snow piled up against my doors and windows these luscious flowers bring spring to my little studio in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. I hope they bring you delight too!

The other day I was driving down to the mailbox and noticed seven or eight bluebirds! I was so excited because I have rarely seen one. Luckily I had my camera next to me. I tried shooting out the car window but that did not work. I quietly opened my car door and gingerly peeked over the hood expecting them to take flight. But they seemed quite unpreturbed as they perched on the yuccas allowing me to shoot several shots. Let me know which one you think is the best capture; one bird, two birds or three birds.

Sunday Morning Gallery - Writing Contest for Children

Here's the challenge kids. Write a story, 200 words or less, about the stone giant that you see in the pictures below. Hmmm. Looks like a head, heart, foot and hand. Wonder why his heart is broken? Why does he have only three fingers? Is he smiling? What do you see?

I will have two age groups, 4 to 8 and 9 to 12. Parents please feel free to type and help your child email me the story but do not write the story for your child. This is for the kids! The two winners will have their story published in my blog and receive a 5x5 print of the giant's head. The deadline for entry is April 11, 2009 and the winners will be published April 19 just before Earth Day! Good luck kids!

Tattoo

Last night I went to have a consultation for my first tattoo. I spoke with Mez Love. I had in mind generally what I wanted but still had some questions as to the design. She was wonderful to work with and immediately came up with a great idea. I can't wait to see her finished design!

My inspiration was this little statue of a wolf sheltering a woman. It has always reminded me of my "soul dog," Keota. She was ever watchful over me in the gentlest of ways, like a wise old spirit, as I believe she was and always will be. So I took my photos of her and this little statue. Part of the design is also a white dove that has great spiritual significance to me. This is so exciting an experience for me and I am so happy to have a true artist doing my first tattoo!

Sunday Morning Gallery - Hope Rises Each Day

For me hope rises with the sun. I can not help but feel renewed when I see our beautiful star rise above the horizon. And even though I have seen many sunrises they are all different. Every one. Some are soft and innocent like a newborn, while others are bold and full of explosive energy.

With so much fear and despair in our world I offer hope that with each sunrise we have a new day to do better and be better. Go for it!
