Sea Birds on the California Pacific Coast

Being from Colorado and over a thousand miles from any ocean, I am always delighted to watch the coastal sea birds. We do have seagulls in Colorado, although we refer to them as terns, and the occasional cormorant ventures to our large lakes too. But watching these birds next to the turbulent roaring Pacific ocean as it crashes and sprays water over jagged rocks is an entirely different experience. I hope that I brought that wonderful day to you with my photography.

Priest Parking

Walking around Bodega, California you can see some very interesting things. The turn of the century architecture is stunning, but I found intriguing a simple little sign proclaiming "Priest Parking" on a gray weathered fence. Maybe it was the evidence of no one ever parking there that I found amusing or maybe it was just that I never thought of priests as having assigned parking spots in such a rural location. Either way, I hope you like it.

California Dreaming on the Coast

It was the rainiest summer week anyone could remember on our California visit in early June. Our hosts suggested that we drive to the coast and we might be lucky and drive out of the rain. I understand how the Rocky Mountains affect our Colorado weather, but I had no knowledge of Pacific coastal weather. But our friends were absolutely correct. We arrived at the coast, and the clouds and rain were forgotten behind us.

These California coast nature landscape photographs feature the Pacific ocean's waves crashing into the rocky coastline with that beautiful sunny blue California sky and the dramatic distant rain clouds in the background. All three photos were taken at Bodega Bay Head, California. And as always, I appreciate your comments. Tell me which one is your favorite and why you like it. Cheers!

Bodega Bay, Home to Hitchcock Movie "The Birds"

On a recent trip to California we visited the northern coastal town of Bodega Bay. It was not until we arrived that I realized it was the home of Alfred Hitchcock's movie, "The Birds." I remember watching that scary movie as a kid, and with that in mind, I set about recording the sights of this sleepy little coastal town. Now how on earth did Hitchcock manage to scare us with this tranquil setting?

An Orgy of Orchids

My dear friends, Ron and Chris, have a passion for growing beautiful orchids and other exotic plants. The more exotic and rare the better. They travel all over collecting these beauties and what started as a hobby is now a business. I had a hard time staying out of the greenhouse while visiting them in California.
