November 2011 Pussy Willow Free Desktop Wallpaper Calendar

After the flashy oranges and yellows of October I was ready for a bit of subtly. The soft grays of the pussy willow catkins and its glowing amber branches were perfect for November's cooler weather and softer color; although I shot this photo in the spring in Rocky Mountain National Park. September 2011 Sunflower Free Desktop Wallpaper Calendar

Here in the northern Colorado Rocky Mountains the evenings are turning cool and crisp. The cicadas sing at night, the hummingbirds are leaving, and the chokecherry bushes are turning a burnt orange. And also the wild sunflowers are at their peak. Nature chooses brilliant colors to decorate the mountain hillsides in yellow daisies, orange leaves, and purple sage. I believe autumn has always been my favorite season.

June 2011 Colorado Columbine Free Desktop Wallpaper Calendar

Colorado columbine with its sky-blue petals and white centers is one of my favorite flowers. The fact that this wildflower grows quite well here in the extreme temperatures of the northern Colorado Rockies amazes me. It is so delicate looking but so tough! Hummingbirds love the pretty blossoms too making it a great addition for your hummingbird garden. There are lots of hybrids out there in many colors of red, yellow, blue, white, pink and purple, as well as combinations of those colors.

This photograph is a wild columbine that I happened upon hiking on a trail in my area. I was amazed at its perfection and beauty among the tangle of green "weeds." Hope you enjoy it as your June 2011 calendar.

Springtime has reached the northern Colorado Rocky Mountains. The sweet but vibrant hot pink blossoms of the cushion cactus are blooming! As I look across a dry brown meadow that is only just getting the first hint of green the bright little blossoms look like neon signs against the drab landscape. What a welcome sight! April 2011 Free Desktop Wallpaper Calendar

Happy Spring to the northern hemisphere! I think those of us in the States are very happy it is here. We have had a rough winter! The Rocky Mountain foothills where I live had a little snow shower yesterday but it melted and started the greening process. Soon my daffodils will be up and looking very similar to this one I shot last spring. It always amazes me how these tenacious delicate flowers push right up through the heavy spring snow undaunted and ready for a sunny day. Here is your new March 2011 desktop wallpaper. These royal blue grape hyacinths had just come up last March when a big spring snow flattened them. But they are hardy little flowers that were undaunted and sprung right back up. It is snowing right now in Colorado. Springtime sees our heaviest snows and this year will no doubt be the same. February 2011 Free Desktop Wallpaper Calendar

For the February 2011 wallpaper calendar I chose a harbinger of spring. I had decided to do flowers for the calendar this year and had to ponder what flower blooms in February? Then I remembered that the amaryllis bulbs in my home bloom in February. I liked that this perfect crimson flower had a tiny vein of white. It gave it a personality all its own in my mind.

You might have noticed that I have expanded the number of monitor sizes available and have also offered one for an iPhone4. I hope you find the perfect version for your use and enjoy this splash of red in the month of love.

November 2010 Free Desktop Wallpaper Calendar

November's calendar is a shot I took near my home in Larimer County, Colorado. This beautiful red sandstone mesa stands as a gateway to Redstone Canyon. The large old cottonwoods at the base of the mesa follow an intermittent creek bed and add seasonal color to the ancient sea bed. I particularly like to shoot photography when the weather is uncertain to get interesting effects and this foggy day transformed the landscape into muted shapes and colors.
