Southwestern Mission In Chimayo, New Mexico

Southwestern Mission In Chimayo New Mexico

You will find that most of the photographs of El Santuario de Chimayo are of the exterior.  But for me the interior is by far the most interesting and beautiful to view.  The old Spanish mission was built in 1816 by a private individual and became a National Historic Landmark in 1970.  It is definitely a worthwhile destination on your next trip to the southwest.  I took this photo a few years ago, and have always liked the warm golden glow inside the sanctuary. I have taken a second look at it making minor improvements and have given it a new crop. If curious, you can see the earlier version and post here.

Flame Fatale - An Orange Garden Rose

a flaming orange rose

Like many people, when February starts to wane my thoughts turn toward spring and flowers! This flame fatale beauty was shot in a friend's rose garden in California. I was taken with the startling color and wanted to preserve it forever. Hope you like it too!

Black and White or Color Photography?

an abandoned old truck resting next to a prairie windmill on the High Plains of Colorado

There are times when I can not decide whether I like a photograph better in black and white or in color. This photograph was one of these times. There are good reasons for both approaches. The subject matter of the old truck and windmill seemed to be out of the past granting a perfect excuse for transforming a modern image into an "aged" black and white photo. On the other hand the rusty old truck was a beautiful reddish burnt orange against a blue Colorado sky.

In general do you like color or black and white photography better? Which do you prefer for this photograph? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

An Interview of Me?

I do not usually do interviews, but I made an exception. Diane Fergurson over at the Mind Body Spirit blog does such a wonderful and professional job at drawing the best out of people with her great interviewing style. I can truly say that when I first saw it I was humbled at the good fortune of being asked. So if you are curious about my personal back story go to Mind Body Spirit and check it out for yourself. You may find out something about me you did not know.
