Mossy California Oak in Golden Sunlight

A majestic California oak with twisted mossy branches catches the golden sunlight filtering through its canopy.

I love beautiful gnarly old oak trees. We do not have them in Colorado so when I am visiting California I take the time to enjoy their beautiful canopies. This giant was standing next to one of those mountain roads in California that are as twisty as this oak's mossy boughs. I love the way the light in California is so much warmer in tone than the crystal clear thin air of Colorado. It was easy to catch that golden light filtering through this oak. What is your favorite tree?

  1. As a Virginian, the Magnolia tree always get my attention. I like its thick, shiny leaves and its blossoms. I like your California Oak here, too. Majestic is almost an understatement!

  2. Magnolias are gorgeous. They are warm weather girls though and not tough enough for our extreme western climate. This oak isn't either as far as that goes!
