Lightning Storm in Colorado

Shooting lightning is a little like fishing. I set up my camera and open my lens with the remote waiting for a bite. There is a lot of waiting involved. There are a lot of hits that get away because they are out of the frame. But when I catch "one" it is a moment not unlike catching a fish. I dance around and can not wait to get it inside for a better look. And once in a great while, you get the "big one!" Here are a couple that did not get away.

  1. WOw...that last one totally took over and lit up the sky. Beautiful!! I imagine your euphoria at capturing the lighting would be akin to a rain dance!

  2. Wow nice shots! I'm jealous....I've tried a few times to get some lightning shots and didn't get anything worth while. Florida gets plenty of lightning, so I'll have plenty of other chances though!

  10. Lightning takes patience. Probably also a bit of courage. You have both, and the results are definitely worth it.

  13. What a wonderful view you had of the lightening storm and excellent photos as a result! That last one looks like the lightening bolt is hitting my office back in Greeley!

  15. The lightining shots are amazing. I once caught a storm, an hour north from Dallas, one of my proud moments. Your shot in comparison, is like an expensive bottle of wine aside my glass of water. Great job ^^

  19. It's nice to know that the first shot is the preferred one. I like that one best too. The last image was the most spectacular strike, but it totally fried the image! As far as it taking courage, it is probably more in the realm of being foolhardy. I have always been comfortable in the wildness of nature, but that doesn't mean it is always the smart thing to do. Thanks for looking and sharing your views! I am always humbled by your comments.

  28. Dramatic! Kudos!

My neighbor from across the street caught a shot of lightning over our house. He got the entire house and the ligntening in sky. It was a nice shot too.

    I appreciate your talent.
