Ocean Rush

The roar of pounding surf filled the world as I stood on the precipice looking down at the churning surf. It washed my thoughts out to sea with each crashing wave and left me free. The shutter clicked and time stopped to be savored again in a more simple setting. This photo takes me back to that feeling of space, serenity, and calm. I hope it does for you too.

California Life on the Coast

The gentle rays of the sun at sea level were cool by California standards, but felt warm to this Colorado girl. The sea breeze was intoxicating. The sights and smells foreign as I stood enthralled by the beauty of the aquamarine water. The birds wheeled overhead as the sea lions lazily rolled over and scratched, all as the fresh water of the Russian River meet her primordial beginnings in the salty sea.

Sea Dreams

A whisper soft breeze catches my hair and I push it back in place out of the way of my camera lens. The scent of sea air fills me with primal memories of safety and comfort. A bird calls sternly to her dinner as the waves gently swoosh and smack on the sandy shore. As I stand and watch the clouds change color and create dancing light upon the water. A calmness enfolds me. It lingers still.

California Coast Flowers

This fine art photograph was taken along the California coastline at Bodega Bay. I am not sure what kind of flowers these are (all suggestions are welcome), but their beautiful neon pink was such a contrast against the aqua blue landscape. Can you hear the surf, smell the spray, and feel the golden sun as you gaze into the far away horizon where water meets air?

Sea Birds on the California Pacific Coast

Being from Colorado and over a thousand miles from any ocean, I am always delighted to watch the coastal sea birds. We do have seagulls in Colorado, although we refer to them as terns, and the occasional cormorant ventures to our large lakes too. But watching these birds next to the turbulent roaring Pacific ocean as it crashes and sprays water over jagged rocks is an entirely different experience. I hope that I brought that wonderful day to you with my photography.

California Dreaming on the Coast

It was the rainiest summer week anyone could remember on our California visit in early June. Our hosts suggested that we drive to the coast and we might be lucky and drive out of the rain. I understand how the Rocky Mountains affect our Colorado weather, but I had no knowledge of Pacific coastal weather. But our friends were absolutely correct. We arrived at the coast, and the clouds and rain were forgotten behind us.

These California coast nature landscape photographs feature the Pacific ocean's waves crashing into the rocky coastline with that beautiful sunny blue California sky and the dramatic distant rain clouds in the background. Inspiration by Bresson and Adams

The work of Henri Cartier-Bresson and Ansel Adams never fails to inspire me to reach higher and try harder with my photography. Bresson with his wonderful urban European shots of people going about their day and Adams with his fabulous captures of nature. I do not compare myself to these two geniuses in anyway, but wish to share my latest black and white photo that was inspired by the work of these two icons in photography.

The Element of Water

The siren of the sea calls to me a least once a year and I hear her all the way to Colorado. If I can not follow her call to the ocean then I find her in a wild river cascading and tumbling down a rocky mountainside. Her music fills my parched soul that our too fast, too complicated world in turn sucks dry. Nature is my friend and water, you might say, is in my inner circle. Feel the spray, scent the perfumed air, and let your imagination take you to the home of the siren of the sea.
