Bridge over the Roaring Fork River in Aspen, Colorado

I love the trickling sound of a mountain stream and can never get too much of a beautiful Colorado day like this one. We were visiting Aspen and taking a break from hiking the rugged mountain trails, as much for our sake as for our physically challenged dog. This gentle hike was on a city trail that meandered back and forth across the river and through the bucolic gentle woodland.

Mossy California Oak in Golden Sunlight

I love beautiful gnarly old oak trees. We do not have them in Colorado so when I am visiting California I take the time to enjoy their beautiful canopies. This giant was standing next to one of those mountain roads in California that are as twisty as this oak's mossy boughs. I love the way the light in California is so much warmer in tone than the crystal clear thin air of Colorado. It was easy to catch that golden light filtering through this oak. Old West Landscape, Fog On The Mesa

Remember watching those old westerns on TV with dad? It was a Saturday afternoon favorite of mine. It's no wonder that I migrated west from Ohio long ago, to quench my thirst for the vast western landscapes. When I was processing this photo it just begged me to make it look aged, to fit in with that Old West feeling that still resides in my memory.

A Shabby Chic Pink Rose with a Secret Heart

There is nothing quite so beautiful as a bouquet of roses. The pink ones were my grandma's favorite flower. I have to admit roses are one of my favorites too. The tiny tight buds, the bloom in it's prime, and yes, the faded glory too. When they start to droop a bit I see the details of their beauty even clearer. Each tiny vein in the petal seems to stand out in detail a bit more. I wanted to save the beauty of this pink garden rose and added a bit of texture to give it a shabby vintage look. And this rose has a secret too. Do you see the tiny heart at its center?

Rocky Mountain Waterfall on the Roaring Fork River, Colorado

Can you imagine sitting on this rock, listening to the rush and tumble of the never ending water? Do you ever wonder where the water comes from? I always wonder in amazement that the strong flow never stops. This waterfall on the Roaring Fork River near Aspen, Colorado is not very far from the Continental Divide. The winter skies bring snow and the slow melt sustains the mountain rivers until the cycle begins again. And again. And again.

Southwestern Mission In Chimayo, New Mexico

You will find that most of the photographs of El Santuario de Chimayo are of the exterior.  But for me the interior is by far the most interesting and beautiful to view.  The old Spanish mission was built in 1816 by a private individual and became a National Historic Landmark in 1970.  It is definitely a worthwhile destination on your next trip to the southwest.  I took this photo a few years ago, and have always liked the warm golden glow inside the sanctuary. I have taken a second look at it making minor improvements and have given it a new crop. If curious, you can see the earlier version and post here.
