Holiday Christmas Greeting Cards

Well my friends, it has been awhile since we last chatted. Since then I have replaced my old computer that was having some old age difficulties handling my large volume of photography. It did not take long to buy a new computer, but the file transfers were a bit trickier. After some careful planning, one failed attempt, and much reading I succeeded in migrating and restoring almost 80 GB of photography files.  Whew!  It feels great to be done! 

I have also been squeezing in time to work on some new holiday designs for this years Christmas cards. Here are my first three that are ready to go for the 2012 season. I hope you like them. And as always, I appreciate your comments and feedback. Cheers!

Nature Blank Cards

Stillness. Happiness. Lightness.

I love these words. They are so simple yet so powerful. They are words to live by.

I came up with an idea a few weeks ago to combine one meditative word with one complimentary image. I wanted the look minimalist. Then I went searching for the right paper. It had to be special. I chose Museo paper, a creamy textured art paper that produces beautiful soft images.

It was so fun and rewarding coming up with these new card designs. I hope you like them. Right now there are only three in the Zen Nature Card Collection, but I'll be searching for more combinations to add soon.

Colorado Wildflower Blank Note Cards

Wildflower season in the Colorado Rocky Mountains is still far off but these three note cards can bring the season to you early. I have three different photos; a lovely lavender penstemon, a bold blue wild geranium, and Colorado's famous columbine. The set includes two of each flower. Photography Studio Open House

A photographer takes pictures. Well, that is no news flash. What may surprise you is that the time spent shooting photography is very small to the amount of time that is spent in the studio. After a typical day shooting maybe two hundred photos or more, I download the digital files to my computer. Then I catalog, keyword, delete, sort, and sort more until I have a small file of workable photos. This can all take the good part of a day.

But then comes the fun part. I get to "play" with the new photos and make them into something beautiful. It may be a minor edit or it might be something purely from my imagination that takes days of work to get just right. It depends on the photograph and what I am trying to communicate to my viewer. I am not a photo journalist so I feel no necessity to sticking to reality. What I remain true to is the emotion of the moment or what the scene was evoking. Sometimes I print numerous drafts before printing an actual archival photograph. Sometimes it's a print! Sometimes it is back to the drawing board. This is the space where you will find me most of the time. I am the one sitting at the computer playing with photography and smiling.

It is January in Colorado and that means cold and snow. We had a storm front plunge the mercury to below zero as the snow fell. So because of the cold shivery temperatures I felt inclined to stay inside and work on a new set of flower cards that so many of you have asked me to do. Chickadee Snow Note Cards Set of Four

I woke up to a fresh blanket of snow covering the pine forest. After fixing coffee I went about my morning routine; build a fire in the wood stove, feed the dogs, and fill the bird feeder. All the little birds were huddled in the snowy boughs waiting for me to hurry up. There were lots of mountain chickadees, nuthatches, and stellers jays. One little chickadee reminded me of a holiday ornament he was so puffed up and round, so I had to snap a photo. Then I thought he would make a very cute holiday note card for sending those thank you notes. So I got busy designing and here is the end result. Hope you like him!
